Perel out to repeat Vallelunga glory

South African racer David Perel will be going all out to win the round of the Italian GT Cup championship at the twisty Vallelunga racetrack this weekend.

Perel, who will be reunited with regular Italian co-driver Mirko Zanardini in the Peresoft Obox Bonaldi Lamborghini Gallardo this weekend following his dream debut victory at Spa in the Lamborghini Cup last month, returns to the Italian GT Cup championship with the same car and the duo wants nothing less than ultimate success.

Perel put the Gallardo on pole position last time out at the same circuit for the season opener in May before the duo won the opening race and that is precisely what they want to do again this weekend, following a difficult outing at Mugello last time out where wheel issues twice took them out of leading contention.

Perel has also been very busy behind the scenes, where he has put together a crowd funding scheme to ensure he keeps his seat for the rest of the season. “Yes, I am racing at Vallelunga this weekend,” David responded to questions on whether he had raised the required backing. “We won the first race there in May and I put it on pole for the second and we intend to do the same again at Vallelunga –

“I also have to thank everyone who has contributed to my race program this year — without you I would not be racing, but I am and it’s a dream come true — we will be doing our best for everyone this weekend…”
